Radiological aspects of Behçet disease.

Abstract: The systemic manifestations of Behçet disease were evaluated retrospectively in 45 patients. Twenty-seven patients underwent radiographic examination. Twenty-two examinations (64.7%) showed positive but nonspecific findings, most of them involving the vascular tree. The roentgen diagnosis of Behçet disease will be influenced by the dermatologic and ophthalmologic findings.

“…It is therefore not true to say that vir tually all patients with neuro-Behcet's syndrome have aseptic meningitis with or without other neurological abnormalities [13]. It is worth noting that low CSF pro tein content, commonly seen in patients with pseudotu mour cerebri, was not seen in any of our patients [14]. The visual acuity was good in all 6 patients at the end of the follow-up.…”

“…Additional involvement of other organs, including the gastrointestinal tract, has been reported since the original description of Behget in 1937 [1]. The incidence of gastrointestinal involvement has been reported in 10-40% of cases [2][3][4][5], and detection of the lesion is important because of the high incidence of hemorrhage and perforation which sometimes need surgical treatment [6][7][8][9][10].…”

“…In the available literature [5,[8][9][10][11], we found only one case of SMA aneurysm due to BD reported by Hills [8]. Another reported case by Parker et al [2] showed occlusion of SMA due to BD. Our case of SMA aneurysm is herein presented to acquaint radiologists with rare vascular complications of BD.…”

“…It is now considered to be a systemic process of unknown etiology and protean clinical manifestations, including involvement of the mucocutaneous, ocular, articular, neurologic, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, and respiratory systems [2]. Cardiovascular involvement can include both arteries and veins, with lesions ranging from arterial occlusions and aneurysms to superficial thrombophlebitis and occlusion of superior or inferior vena cava [3].…”
