“…The property is situated on a housing development constructed around 1994, and therefore subject to the radon protection provisions included in the U.K. Building Regulations from 1992 onwards (Scivyer, 2007) in that its foundations incorporated a protective membrane and a sump. We recently demonstrated, however, that a significant proportion of the properties in this particular development exhibited elevated radon levels indicative of failure of the anti-radon measures (Groves-Kirkby et al, 2006a), and post-construction radon concentrations in the house forming the subject of the present study, showed radon concentrations exceeding the advisory Action Level of 200 Bq m À3 . The householders therefore decided to implement the final stage of remediation, namely installation of an extraction fan coupled to the sump in order to enhance the sub-slab depressurisation (Scivyer, 2007).…”
