Raman spectroscopy of new lead iodide intercalation compounds

Abstract: PbI2 crystals have been intercalated with ammonia, methylamine (CH3NH2), ethylamine (C2H5NH2), and butylamine (C4H9NH2) for the first time. Raman spectra of these materials, and also of PbI2 intercalated with nonylamine (C9H19NH2) were obtained using an excitation wavelength of 514.531 nm. For comparison a study of the interaction of CdI2 with the same molecules is included. Raman spectroscopy in the range 10-500 cm-1 demonstrated the occurrence of a polytypic phase transition from 1 T to 3 T on intercalation … Show more

“…Inserting guest atoms or molecules into the interlayer spaces is easy to achieve, and leads to the variation of many physical properties, such as optical, electrical, crystalline structure [1][2][3][4] . Regarding nonlinear optic of bismuth iodine, the band gap of was about 2.0 eV.…”

“…The hypothesis is sustained by the following: (i) a large number of infrared and Raman frequencies for ammine complexes of metal halides have been reported [18] and in all cases the metal-nitrogen stretching frequencies are in the 243-545 cm −1 range; (ii) a Raman band at 322 cm −1 has already been assigned to Cd-N stretching in [Cd(NH 3 ) 6 ]I 2 [19] and to Pb-N bond in NH 3 -intercalated PbI 2 [2] and (iii) a Raman band located at 135 cm −1 was identified in the Raman spectrum of PbI 2 intercalated with other nitrogen-containing molecules [4,5].…”

“…of the semiconductor layered crystal. In most cases, the works regarding the intercalation of layered metal iodides (PbI 2 , BiI 3 and CdI 2 ) with different guest species were focused on PbI 2 as matrix [2][3][4][5].…”

“…properties of the host crystal. Until now, the most papers regarding the intercalation of layered metal iodides have been focused on PbI 2 as host matrix and ammonia as guest molecule [1][2][3]. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to extend the intercalation studies to other layered metal iodides (BiI 3 , CdI 2 and AgI), using pyridine as guest molecule.…”
