“…Incision type is also an effective factor in hernia development. Many reports stated that transverse abdominal incisions have lower rate of incisional hernia when compared to midline incisions [12,13,14]. On the contrary , Ellis H et al [15] claimed that there were no difference for hernia development with different incision types.…”

“…Incisional hernia is an often underestimated complication after open abdominal aortic aneurysm repair Incidences as high as 90% after midline laparotomy are reported in the literature after surgery for aneurysm (Fassiadis et al, 2005). This was with routine use of ultrasound and not all hernia demanded treatment.…”

“…Others report lower incidence: 30% (Holland et al, 1996). The cause of high incidence of hernia after aneurysm surgery is thought to be a (Fassiadis et al, 2005). A recent report from the UK showed the feasibility of a minilaparotomy for open aortic aneurysm repair (Hafez et al, 2011).…”

“…[7][8][9][10][11] One study, however, has suggested that this might be lowered by the use of a transverse incision over a vertical one. 12 Divarication of the recti is a separation between the left and right rectus abdominis muscles, leaving the central abdominal wall devoid of support, allowing protrusion of the abdominal contents.…”
