“…Solid-state dewetting is a simple, low-cost, and industrially known scalable approach for the fabrication of substrate-bound metallic nanoparticles arrays onto various substrates, including glass, α-Fe 2 O 3 (0001)/α-Al 2 O 3 (0001), α-Fe 2 O 3 (0001)/SrTiO 3 (111), and ceramic single-crystals such as c-plane sapphire (α-Al 2 O 3 ) and silicon [38,[41][42][43][44]; in recent years, it has received a lot of interest as a viable approach for the large-scale fabrication of advanced photonic nanostructures [25,28,41,[45][46][47]. SSD is a spontaneous phenomenon where a continuous polycrystalline metallic thin film onto a surface rearranges itself into an ensemble of separated islands or droplets upon appropriate annealing [25,28,41,[45][46][47][48].…”

“…The (221) shear band observed in the present study deviates from the {111} slip or twinning planes typical for the fcc Au. The slip traces corresponding to the {111} slip planes have been observed in faceted single crystalline particles of Pt [24] and of Ni-Au alloys [25] compressed by a flat diamond punch. The fact that the highly strained planar feature observed in the present work deviates from crystallographic {111} plane indicates that this is most likely a highly localized shear band, since the shear bands in fcc metals do not usually follow the low-index crystallographic planes [26].…”

“…Moreover, the thermal energy provided to the thin films during the solid-state dewetting could lead to surface segregation effects of the bimetallic alloy [55], i.e., the enrichment of the surface in one of the components in comparison to the nominal concentration. In this context, the segregation of Au in Fe-and Ni-rich dewetted alloy is the subject of several studies [56][57][58]. In the case of FePd alloy, segregation of the Fe atoms on the surface was found, due to their higher oxide-forming tendency, compared to Pd atoms [59].…”
