Rare Pseudopapillary Neoplasm of the Pancreas: A 10-Year Experience

Abstract: Introduction. The solid pseudopapillary epithelial neoplasm (SPN) is a rare form of pancreatic neoplasm with an incidence of 2-3% of all pancreatic tumours. The recent increase in incidence is attributed to the increasing use of imaging techniques for nonspecific abdominal complaints. We report our institutional experience in the management of this tumour over the last decade. Method. We retrospectively analyzed from a prospectively maintained database of patients from January 2011 to December 2020 who were op… Show more

“…Here, we present the first case of liver transplantation for metastasis of SPN in a male patient. SPN affects women in an almost 10: 1 female-to-male ratio and it has a low malignant potential and a good survival rate [1]. However, 10-15% of cases of SPN have metastatic disease at the time of diagnosis and the most common site is the liver.…”

“…It is an uncommon neoplasm, accounting for approximately 2% of all pancreatic tumors. Nevertheless, due to extensive usage and improving precision of radiological imaging, SPN is being detected more frequently [1].…”

“…Solid pseudopapillary neoplasm of the pancreas (SPN) is an uncommon pancreatic tumor 7 , occurring predominantly in young women aged between 18 and 35 years 14 , with a female-to-male ratio of 7–11:1 2 , 11 . It has low malignant potential and is usually associated with a favorable prognosis with a long-term disease-free survival of 95%; however, some cases may be locally aggressive and infiltrative, with metastases to the liver, lung, and skin, especially in men 15 , 18 .…”
