Rare species and preliminary list of mosses of the Anabar Plateau (Subarctic Siberia).

Abstract: A preliminaty list of mosses of Anabar Plateau and nearby areas (70-73°N and 100-111°E) includes 520 species. Rare species are highlighted and briefly discussed. With a mix of arctic, boreal, xeric, and even suboceanic species, the area is exceptionally rich for subarctic Siberia. The occurrence of numerous calciphytes, including 11 species of Seligeria, ultra-acidophytes such as Tetrodontium brownianum, and "metallophytes" in the genera Mielichhoferia and Coscinodon, can be explained by the complex bedrock ge… Show more

“…Additional localities of this species were reported later by Ignatov et al (2014), Fedosov et al (2011, Afonina et al (2017). All these specimens were revisited in the course of preparing of the present paper, thus, according to our results, the species has rather broad hypoarctic-montane Asiatic distribution.…”

“…These specimens were referred to O. pallens in publications on regional floras (Afonina, 2004;Fedosov & Ignatova, 2005;Fedosov et al, 2011;Ignatov et al, 2014), despite a differences in morphology, ecology and patterns of distribution. Hyaline teeth at leaf apex, composed of large, elongate, acute, protruding papillose cells are notable even for superficial study with the hand lens, and invariably numerous gemmae are not characteristic of O. pallens, which occurs in Europe mainly in temperate to hemiboreal climates, growing mostly on trees.…”

“…The nearest from the West to Orulgan and well studied moss flora is that of Anabar Plateau (Fedosov et al, 2011), which is likely most rich in xerophytes Subarctic moss flora. This area is somewhat more northern than Orulgan (200-400 km north), although its zonal position appears to be the same, because this longitudinal sector is known as having the northernmost forest in the world, at 74°N (cf.…”

“…Microbryum davallianum is a very rare species in Russia: it is known from few localities in the Caucasus, one finding in European Russia, and one collection from Anabar Plateau (Fedosov et al, 2011). It was collected on fine soil in crack of xeric cliff along Buotama River, with Entosthodon pulchellus and Tortula cernua.…”
