Rat serum lipoproteins during carcinogenesis of the liver in the preneoplastic and the neoplastic state

Abstract: The serum lipoproteins of rats during carcinogenesis of the liver, induced by N-2jhorenylacetamide, were investigated by disc electrophoresis, preparative ultracentrifugation and lipid and protein analyses. In the case of rats with preneoplastic livers, the very low-density lipoproteins increased by about 100 %, whereas both low-density and high-density lipoproteins increased by about 200 % as compared with control rats. 269 139 105The livers were composed of hyperplastic nodules. Lipoproteins isolated from po… Show more

“…Phenobarbital is also known to increase hepatic VLDL production in rats (Infante et al, 1971). It is reported that serum lipoproteins are increased during liver carcinogenesis in the preneoplastic and neoplastic states and has been pointed out that increased lipoprotein is required for proliferating tissues to synthesize membranes or to supply energy during carcinogenesis (Narayan, 1971). In another study by Prabhakaran et al, dietary intake of 60 mg/kg alpha-HCH by normal diet fed pregnant rats on the 6 th , 10 th and 14 th day of gestation resulted in hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia (Prabhakaran and Devi, 1993).…”
