Rate of Healing in Skin-Grafted Burn Wounds

Abstract: The authors' results suggest that most patients will heal skin-grafted burn wounds within 2 weeks. Meticulous attention to prevention of seroma, hypergranulation tissue formation, and malnutrition might decrease time to complete wound healing. Factors thought to influence time to complete wound healing, such as total body surface area burned, sex, age, graft type, and infection, did not significantly affect the authors' patient group.

“…Of all animals treated with an STSG, 80% showed a graft adherence of more than 75%; however, there were no significant differences between the treatment group receiving eCryo and the control. This is comparable with the results of a recent prospective clinical trial showing healing rates in skin grafted burn wounds (24). Only 46% of patients were completely healed after 2 weeks and critically ill patients were excluded from this study.…”

“…• our data show that local therapy with eCryo is an easy, quick and safe procedure, and that the results obtained here are comparable with the results achieved by the use of fibrin glues (24). Only 46% of patients were completely healed after 2 weeks and critically ill patients were excluded from this study.…”

“…The integrity of this TCSA after reaching full differentiation could be maintained in vitro for up to 6 weeks. The time needed for complete wound closure under optimal conditions is between 2 and 75 days [42] for meshed split skin. TCSAs can reduce the healing time.…”

“…Moreover, the transplanted keratinocytes facilitate the formation of blood vessels [8]. In addition, skin grafting has been used for the treatment of burns and chronic leg ulcers, which can promote faster re-epithelialization of partial thickness wounds [9][10][11][12]. However, the potential mechanism of keratinocytes for accelerated skin wound healing is unclear.…”
