Ratoon Rice System of Production: A Rapid Growth Pattern of Multiple Cropping in China: A Review

Wenge Wu,
Zhong Li,
Min Xi
et al.

Abstract: In this review, the significance of ratoon rice was introduced, and the research status and development trends of ratoon rice were also summarized. It is pointed out that mechanically harvested ratoon rice is the developing direction of future ratoon rice. On this basis, we analyzed the relationship between the yield of ratoon rice and many factors, such as variety characteristics, sowing date, water control, fertilizer, and many others. It is important to construct a comprehensive and practical evaluation sys… Show more

“…Plants in the ratoon crop were grown and headed from the dormant buds on the rice stubble of the main crop. Therefore, part of their nutrients in the early stage came from the absorption of the old roots in the main crop and the accumulation and translocation of rice stubble, and the plant then relied on new roots to absorb nutrients ( Wu et al., 2023 ). In the current study, the dry matter weight of organs in each growth stage of the ratoon crop generally increased with the extension of the growth duration of the varieties, and the dry matter weight of grains spikelet among varieties with different growth duration was significantly different.…”

“…The production rate of ratoon rice depends on different factors such as variety selection, sowing time, stubble height, and the growth status of the ratoon spikelet [ 3 ]. The ratoon spikelet consists of an outgrowth of the axillary bud and tillering at the base.…”

“…Recently, there has been a significant shift towards mechanization in rice production. This evolution has been crucial in increasing productivity and efficiency while simultaneously reducing both operational costs and labor reliance in rice cultivation practices [2].…”
