RCS Reduction of Patch Array Using Shorted Stubs Metamaterial Absorber

Abstract: A novel design approach for the out of band radar cross section (RCS) reduction of a conventional 2 2 patch antenna arrays using shorted stubs metamaterial absorber (MMA) operating in X-band has been proposed. Firstly, an ultrathin MMA unit cell with a central frequency of 10 GHz is designed and its scattering parameters, absorbance characteristics and polarization sensitivity have been analyzed. Then, a patch antenna array has been designed at a resonant frequency of 7.54 GHz. Simulation and experimental resu… Show more

“…Furthermore, a modified circular ring geometry 68 is proposed with shorted stubs to design dual band MA which helped in RCS reduction of 24.09 dBsm at 11.99 GHz and 7.86 dBsm at 14.28 GHz. Another multilayered MA is proposed to reduce the RCS of a circular patch antenna in which the MA unit cells are placed in a circular fashion around the circular patch for maximum space utilization, illustrated in Figure 19A 69 .…”

“…Let `L' represents length and `W' represents width of a rectangular conducting patch. The microstrip substrate has dielectric constant, denoted by εr and thickness, h. The antennas feed can be either contacting type in which RF signal is directly fed through the contacting element like coaxial cable, or it may be non -contacting type in which the RF signal is transferred through electromagnetic coupling [8].…”

“…In normal or conventional material E-field and H-fields creates a right-handed triplet with the direction of phase propagation. In negative refracted material has negative µ and negative ε, they create a left hand triplites and also known as left-handed materials [3], which are not been found in nature but can be able to produce artificially [4]. Wide research is going on in this field, researchers and engineers are getting more capable to design or create these types of material as never before.…”
