Reactions of a β-diketiminate zinc hydride complex with heterocumulenes

Abstract: The β-diketiminate zinc hydride MesnacnacZnH (1) reacts with CO(2), C(Ni-Pr)(2) and t-BuNCO at ambient temperature with insertion into the Zn-H bond and subsequent formation of the corresponding formato (2), formamido (3) and formamidinato (4) complexes.

“…The formate unit is characterized with one singlet at 7.99 ppm in the 1 H NMR spectrum and with one signal at 166.94 ppm in the 13 C{ 1 H} NMR spectrum. These chemical shifts are similar to those reported for [{(Mesnacnac)Zn(O 2 CH)} 2 ] 12. The integration ratio of formate to NHC ligands of 2:1 agrees with the formulation of the molecular structure.…”

“…Our interest in complexes containing N , N′ ‐ and N ,O‐chelating amidinate, β‐diketiminate, β‐ketoiminate, and ureate ligands prompted us to evaluate the influence of electron‐withdrawing substituents in β‐diketimines on their electronic nature, leading to the synthesis of β‐diketimine LH 1 {L = HC[C(CF 3 )NC 6 F 5 ] 2 }. 1 was further used as an electron‐poor substituents in main‐group metal (LAlMe 2 4 ) and transition‐metal complexes [LZnEt 5 , LCu(C 6 H 6 ) 6 and LCuCO 7 ].…”

“…In cases where the parent formamidinate species are required, analogous access necessitates the availability of a suitably reactive, molecular metal hydride. Documented examples of this latter process include rare earth metal (Y, [3][4][5] La 6 and Lu 7 ), transition metal (Fe, 8 Zr, 9 Nb, Ta 10 and Re 11 ), p-block (B, [12][13][14][15] Al, 16,17 Zn, [18][19][20] Ga 16 and Sn 21 ) and s-block metal (Li 22 and Mg 23,24 ) hydrides (Scheme 1(b)).…”
