4 , in benzene under reflux to afford the novel 4,6-spirocycle in moderate yield. The deep-blue crystals of the spirocycle are airstable and high melting in nature. The spiro phosphorus atom subtends a four-membered P V S VI N 2 ring which is saturated, and a six-membered P V S IV 2 N 3 ring which is unsaturated. The single-crystal X-ray structure of this first example of the spirocycle reveals a planar PSN 2 ring and a puckered PS 2 N 3 ring and the molecule is symmetric in nature.A new synthetic route to cyclophosphadithiatriazines 883

Aminophosphines: their chemistry and role as ligands and synthons

In recent years, research in organophosphorus chemistry has mainly focused in designing newer and better phosphorus ligands for synthesizing novel metal complexes with improved catalytic activities. Aminophosphines [tricoordinate phosphorus(III)-nitrogen systems] are considered as versatile compounds owing to the presence of nitrogen centres which, in principle, can influence additional reactivity features. They are quite sensitive to air and moisture due to the presence of polar P-N bond(s). In spite of this, research in aminophosphine chemistry is gaining momentum day-by-day and this is due mainly to one reason: their rich behaviour as ligands in metal complex chemistry and subsequently in catalysis. Their role as synthons in inorganic heterocyclic chemistry has also helped produce new types of heterocycles. In this paper, the chemistry of simple acyclic aminophosphines (synthesis, characterization, reactivity and applications) is covered and particular focus is given to their ability to form chalcogenides along with their role played as ligands in coordination chemistry and as synthons in inorganic heterocyclic chemistry.

Cyclic S-N compounds and phosphorus reagents-XVII. Synthesis and X-ray structural characterization of (Ph)(DCA)(Me2N)P=N-S3N3 heterocycle

The phosphiniminocyclotrithiazene, (Ph)(DCA)(Me2N)PN-S3N 3 (II) [-DCA = dicyclohexylamino] was obtained in ~ 70% yield from room temperature reaction of $4N4 with the corresponding phosphine, (Ph)(DCA)(Me2N)P (I). Single crystal X-ray structure determination of (II) reveals slightly different P-N bond lengths around phosphorus [P-N(4): 1-607; P-N(5): 1"645 and P-N(6): 1.638/~] and almost planar configuration around both N(5) and N(6). The tricoordinate sulphur IS(l)] substantially deviates (0.663/~) from the mean plane of the heterocycle. The structural parameters of (II) are compared with the recently reported diethylamino and di-n-butylamino analogues. (II) affords (Ph)(DCA)(Me2N)P = N-S3N (IV) in 60% yield on thermolysis in solution.
