“…Genes for those proteins are also found in some environmental bacteria, including ammonium-oxidizing bacteria (Casciotti and Ward, 2001), some Rhodocyclacles and some Burkholderiales (Figure 2 and Supplementary Figure S1). NnrS is a cuproprotein linked to nitrosative stress (Patra et al, 2019). It is present in most β proteobacteria, at several copies in Rhodocyclales, Nitrosomonadales, Neisseriales, and some Burkholderiales.…”

“…From these facts, we propose that in a nitrate deprived anaerobic growth condition, in-vivo nitration and de-nitration is a cyclical phenomenon which is governed by controlled oxidative condition of cell and can perform as a sole source of respiration just to keep cells viable. Apart from this, in our previous studies we showed the role of S-nitrosoglutathione Reductase (GSNOR) 21 and Catalases (KatB & KatG) 22 in combating nitrosative stress mediated by GSNO and peroxynitrite respectively. Hence, in-vivo nitration might also be an advanced evolutionary adapted mechanism of nitrosative stress tolerance found in V. cholerae , as it restricts proteome to unnecessary PTN in nitroso-oxidative stress prevailing environment such as inside human gut.…”

“…stress response enzyme (Patra et al, 2019), was also increased in the treated cells, and this might be involved to detoxify reactive species that were generated by the action of ac.NaNO 2 (Bhattacharjee et al, 2010;Gebicka & Didik, 2009;Navarro et al, 2020;Sahoo et al, 2009). In S. cerevisiae, ADH1, ADH3, ADH4 and ADH5 produce ethanol from acetaldehyde, whereas ADH2 is involved in the reverse reaction i.e.…”

“…Reactive nitrogen species are formed during the reaction between reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) (Peluffo & Radi, 2007;Ridnour et al, 2004). Alteration of the redox homeostasis along with the modification of macromolecules like DNA, proteins and lipids are considered to be the major consequences of nitrosative stress that leads to the modification of physicochemical properties of the cell (Carballal et al, 2014;Kurutas, 2016;Patra et al, 2017Patra et al, , 2019. Under nitrosative stress, this structural modification of proteins and enzymes by protein tyrosine nitration (PTN) and S-nitrosylation may result in the alteration of their activity.…”
