This paper describes the interaction mechanism between magnetic particles of recording media. This interaction has been observed experimentally by studying the deviation from the linear relation of Henkel plots.' However, the physical meaning of these plots is not always clear. This paper clarifies the plots by analysis using a mathematical model. without interaction between magnetic particles. This function is the switching probability density of magnetic particles, measured individually, as a function of magnetic field h given by h=H/H,. where H and H, are externally applied magnetic field and coercive field, respectively. Magnetization i s described by a integral of SFO(h).We define a new function SFO(h) as the switching field distribution BHO(h) is the primitive function of SFO(h). Therefore, We next describe the particle-particle interaction by modifying themagnetic field at the upper limit of the integral. To do this, an interaction field km is introduced and added to the externally applied field h.k represents the strength of the particle-particle interaction, which requires that k
