Readiness Assessment for Implementation of Integrated Project Delivery (Ipd) in Industrialised Building System (Ibs) Projects

Abstract: The Malaysian government has taken the initiative of implementing Industrialised Building System (IBS) in which components are manufactured in mass production under a controlled environment (on or off site), transported, positioned and assembled into a structure with minimal additional site works. It is hope that IBS can improve the performance of construction industry. However, the main barriers in IBS implementation is project delivery process. In order to overcome this barrier, ‘Integrated Project Delivery … Show more

“…5.2.1. Project delivery method IPD has been proposed as an approach to enhance the multi-party collaboration throughout the fabrication, transportation, and construction of off-site projects (Osman et al, 2015). There are needs of further research on how IPD or other fast-track project delivery methods (e.g., Design-Build) could provide the systematic support to the successful implementation of OSC projects.…”

“…Ma et al (2018) suggests a collaboration platform for IPD projects to improve the efficiency of IPD collaboration. Osman et al (2015) developed a readiness assessment model to implement in IPD construction projects, followed up with a study to assess how ready the Malaysian construction industry is for IPD (Osman et al, 2017). Bygballe et al (2015) examine implementation and experiences when studying the interplay between formal and informal contracting in five integrated project delivery projects.…”

“…However, project delivery methods are changing and the principles of collaboration and integration are becoming increasingly important in construction projects (Costa and Tavares, 2012). Traditional project practice is being replaced by collaborative approaches, such as integrated project delivery (IPD) (Osman et al, 2015), in which project participants come together as a close team, and the focus is transparency and open communication among all partners (AIA, 2007). Management of multiple partners and the communication and collaboration between them is crucial, to maintain an acceptable balance between their interests (Karlsen, 2002;Yang and Shen, 2014).…”
