Real-Power Rescheduling of Generators for Congestion Management Using a Novel Satin Bowerbird Optimization Algorithm

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, an efficient meta-heuristic satin bowerbird optimization (SBO) algorithm is presented for congestion management (CM) in the deregulated power system. The main objective of CM is to relieve congestion in the transmission lines using a generation rescheduling-based approach, while satisfying all the constraints with minimum congestion cost. The SBO is a nature-inspired algorithm, developed based on the 'male-attracts-the-female for breeding' principle of the specialized stick structure me… Show more

“…The second class of algorithms includes Firefly1 and Firefly2, variants of Firefly algorithms considering the updating rules (31) and (36) respectively. In our tests the parameters were set as follows: β 0 = 2, γ = 2, α damp = 0.98 and the population size is 30.…”

“…Note that the APSO and Firefly parameters β 0 and γ are usually set in (0, 10) [25,31]. In order to tune the parameters values to the considered registration problem, we have implemented a standard self-adaptive method.…”

“…The mapping of level (l-1) with level (l) is done by replacing each vertex of the four basic curves, C1;C2;C3;C4 with that of level (l-1), as depicted [19] in Figure 2(a). For this, the level could be rotated in apt manner and made to reflect for getting fit to the new curve.…”

“…Control variables are voltage of generation buses, on load tap-changer setting of transformers and generated reactive power of capacitor banks, while dependent variables are voltage of load buses, apparent power flow of transmission lines, and reactive power of generators. So, the major objectives of such ORPF problem is to find control variable so that others have values falling into a permitted operating range [1,2]. Traditionally, the ORPF problem concentrates on reducing three individual objectives such as power losses of transmission lines, voltage deviation, and voltage stability index.…”
