Το δίκτυο ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας θεωρείται το πιο πολύπλοκο σύστημα που έχει κατασκευαστεί από την ανθρωπότητα. Αυτό το σύστημα βιώνει σήμερα μια σημαντική μετάβαση. Μέσω αυτής της μετάβασης πρέπει αντιμετωπιστεί η αυξανόμενη ανάγκη για ενέργεια σε συνδυασμό με το πιεστικό πρόβλημα της κλιματικής αλλαγής. Ο κύριος στόχος της παρούσας διατριβής είναι να αξιοποιήσει τους τρόπους με τους οποίους η ενεργός συμμετοχή, τόσο από πλευράς ζήτησης όσο και από πλευράς προσφοράς, στις αγορές ενέργειας μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε ενεργειακή και οικονομική ισορροπία.Αυτή η διδακτορική διατριβή αφορά στην αξιοποίηση των πρόσφατων εξελίξεων στα Δίκτυα Ηλεκτρικής Ενέργειας, την Ανάλυση Δεδομένων, τη Θεωρία Παιγνίων, το Διαδίκτυο των πραγμάτων και της τεχνολογίας του Blockchain για να σχεδιάσει και να αναπτύξει ένα πρωτότυπο σύστημα που ενσωματώνει τα ακόλουθα επιθυμητά χαρακτηριστικά:1)Ενσωματώνει την επιχειρησιακή λογική σε συσκευές για συμμετοχή σε ανοικτές αγορές ενέργειας χωρίς μεσάζοντες, όπως για συσκευές που καταναλώνουν ενέργεια σε κατοικίες και κατανεμημένες πηγές ενέργειας που συνδέονται σε ένα έξυπνο δίκτυο.2)Παρέχει, μέσω της μηχανικής μάθησης, πληροφορίες για αυτές τις συσκευές που απαιτούνται για την αποτελεσματικότητα και τη σταθερότητα της αγοράς.3)Επιτρέπει την αποκέντρωση της αγοράς σχεδιάζοντας αποτελεσματικούς αλγόριθμους συναίνεσης προσαρμοσμένους στις ανάγκες του ηλεκτρικού δικτύου.4)Ενσωματώνει την ενεργειακή και την οικονομική σταθερότητα όσον αφορά τόσο τους φυσικούς νόμους, που ορίζουν την λειτουργία του δικτύου ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας όσο και τις κοινωνικές δυνατότητες των συμμετεχόντων στην αγορά.Τα πληροφοριακά μοντέλα και συστήματα που σχεδιάστηκαν και υλοποιήθηκαν σε αυτή την εργασία δοκιμάζονται με πειράματα μεγάλης κλίμακας, τα οποία προσομοιώνουν ηλεκτρικά δίκτυα με κατανεμημένη παραγωγή, υψηλή διείσδυση ανανεώσιμων πηγών ενέργειας και ενεργή ζήτηση που ανταποκρίνεται σε σήματα τιμής.

Recently distributed stream processors are increasingly being deployed in cloud computing infrastructures. In this article, we study performance characteristics of distributed stream processing applications in Google Compute Engine which is based on Kubernetes. We identify performance gaps in terms of throughput which appear in such environments when using a round robin (RR) scheduling algorithm. As a solution, we propose resource aware stream processing scheduler called resource aware scheduler for stream processing applications in cloud native environments (RaspaCN).We implement RaspaCN's job scheduler using two-step process. First, we use machine learning to identify the optimal number of worker nodes. Second, we use RR and multiple Knapsack algorithms to produce performance optimal stream processing job schedules. With three application benchmarks called HTTP Log Processor, Nexmark, and Email Processor representing real world stream processing scenarios we evaluate the performance benefits obtained via RaspaCN's scheduling algorithm. RaspaCN could produce percentage increase of average throughput values by at least 37%, 38%, and 10%, respectively, for HTTP Log Processor, Nexmark, and Email Processor benchmarks for fixed input data rates. Furthermore, we conduct experiments with varying input data rates as well and show 7% improved average throughput for HTTP Log Processor. These experiments show the effectiveness of our proposed stream processor job scheduler for producing improved performance.
