Real-Time Healthcare Monitoring System using Online Machine Learning and Spark Streaming

Abstract: The real-time monitoring and tracking systems play a critical role in the healthcare field. Wearable medical devices with sensors, mobile applications, and health cloud have continuously generated an enormous amount of data, often called streaming big data. Due to the higher speed of the streaming data, it is difficult to ingest, process, and analyze such huge data in real-time to make real-time actions in case of emergencies. Using traditional methods that are inadequate and time-consuming. Therefore, there i… Show more

“…Data sources for static data can include archived medical records or data repositories. Stream processing frameworks, such as Apache Kafka and Apache Spark [4], provide the necessary tools for processing and analyzing static data. Outputs can include dashboards, alerts, and other visualizations that enable doctors to make real-time decisions based on the processed data.…”

“…For this reason, Apache Kafka and Apache Spark technologies, which are popularly used in big data processing, are recently used by researchers 14,15 . In Reference 16, the authors proposed an Apache Spark‐based online prediction system to predict a person's health status in real‐time. In their article, Spark's MLlib machine learning algorithms were used in disease prediction.…”
