Real-Time Mode Switching and Beam Scanning of High-Gain OAM Waves Using a 1-Bit Reconfigurable Reflectarray Antenna

Abstract: A reconfigurable electromagnetic surface has been studied to realize the adjustable orbital angular momentum (OAM) beams for real-time wireless communication and dynamic target detection in the future. OAM mode switching realized by many previous designs suffers from low gains without OAM beam scanning. In this article, a 1-bit reconfigurable reflectarray antenna is designed, fabricated, and tested for the real-time control of OAM mode switching and large-angle vortex beam scanning in three-dimensional space. … Show more

“…Beam steering can be accomplished with the help of the mechanical BS because it is the prior process of SBS of the ESPAR array of ESPAR antennas. Only after fixing the position of the tags, can the SBS capture the information signal [ 45 , 46 , 47 ]. Therefore, the purpose of this research article is to determine a sensor networking system with low power consumption that can communicate over distances and find the exact location of the data signal source.…”

“…The OAM mode of the antennas is ±1 to make a fair comparison of gains. For the RA based designs [24,50,51], to avoid blockage of the sources, the beam directions of the RAs are steered off the broadside. Hence, the aperture efficiency of RA based OAM antennas is relatively limited compared with the proposed design.…”

“…It can also be used to detect multiple targets simultaneously [1], [4] as well as angular velocity, radius and tilt angle of rotating objects [5]- [7]. It can also increase the channel capacity within a communication network with theoretically infinite number of channels based on different OAM modes [8], [9].…”
