Reappraisal of the G Time Concept in Mini-Frac Analysis

Abstract: Industry is currently using mini-frac analysis for the determination of fracture closure stress and after-closure reservoir properties. The foundation of all mini-frac analysis is the one dimensional Carter leak-off model, which leads directly to the concept of G Time. For 30+ years, G Time (or the G function) has played the dominant role for the determination of closure stress. The current norm uses combination G function and combination square root Δt plots for closure pressure determination. Each combinatio… Show more

“…The data here support this association and lend credence to concerns regarding long-term effects of pandemic-related testing delays on future STI rates 22,27 . Self-reported access issues are validated by reports from states, jurisdictions, and STI clinic directors of service limitations due to initial pandemic-related clinic closures, ongoing STI resource (e.g., Disease Intervention Specialist staff) reallocation to COVID-19 efforts, and clinical supply shortages 12,28 . Beyond structural challenges, the posts here highlight a barrier to care to have been individual hesitancy related to COVID-19 exposure concerns and potential effects on one's and/or one's family's health.…”

“…Log-log plots of pressure derivatives are often used to determine flow regimes for after closure analysis and assist the interpretation of closure stress (Barree et al 2019;Hawkes et al 2012;Soliman et al 2015). Even though Well-A was shut-in for nearly four weeks, pseudo-radial flow is still absent, as shown in Fig.…”

“…Bachman [11] et al proposed a systematic standardized pressure decline analysis method based on log-log plots to identify various flow regimes before and after fracture closure. Liu [12] and Ehlig-Economides [13] proposed G-function-based analytical models to represent before-closure non-ideal leak-off behaviors. Wang [14] and Sharma proposed pressure decline analysis to characterize the properties of natural fractures and fracture stiffness for propped and un-propped fractures.…”
