Rear‐Illuminated Perovskite Photorechargeable Lithium Battery

Abstract: Photovoltaic power-conversion systems can harvest energy from sunlight almost perpetually whenever sun rays are accessible. Meanwhile, as indispensable energy storage units used in advanced technologies such as portable electronics, electric vehicles, and renewable/smart grids, batteries are energy-limited closed systems and require constant recharging. Fusing these two essential technologies into a single device would create sustainable power source. Here, it is demonstrated that such an integrated device can… Show more

“…Solar cells are oftentimes used in conjunction with batteries or supercapacitors to smooth out the intermittent nature of insolation, and interesting research has recently been undertaken in the integration of energy harvesting and storage technologies. [ 1–4 ] However, combining solar cells with electrochemical energy storage devices typically requires electronics to match the output of the energy harvester to the requirements of the storage systems. [ 5,6 ] This approach also adds to the device complexity and ohmic contact losses.…”

“…Organic–inorganic halide perovskite material-based solar cells have been appealing mounting research interest due to their high-power conversion efficiency (PCE) and low-cost device manufacturing. A decade of rigorous research on perovskite solar cells (PSCs) through film growth control, interface engineering, transport layer engineering, and perovskite compositional engineering has led to certified efficiency of 25.2%, which outperforms the widely deployed multicrystalline silicon and CIGS, CdTe thin-film technologies. This has opened new doors toward low-cost solar-generated electricity. Halide perovskite has typically an ABX 3 structure, where A is an organic (MA, FA) or an inorganic (Cs) cation, B is a divalent cation (Pb, Sn), and X is a halide (Cl, Br, I). , The enhancement in power conversion efficiency (PCE) for perovskite solar cells can be largely credited to superior traits of the perovskites such as absorption coefficient, long charge carrier diffusion length, , high mobility, defect tolerance, and low exciton binding energy …”

“…An EQE measurement was carried out on a 74,125, Oriel, instrument in dark to avoid the possible effect from the background light. 70 The steady-state power output was obtained using the same arrangement as used for J−V curves, but the sweep mode was changed to the sampling mode with a defined sampling interval (5s). The transient photocurrent and photovoltage investigations were conducted utilizing a nitrogen laser (OBB's Model OL-4300) pulse at 377 nm to pump a dye laser (model 1011) for generating a short pulse.…”
