Abstract

Mental Philosophy is that science which discusses the properties and operations of the human soul, p. 21. Various names have been attached to this science, such as Metaphysics, Anthropology, Psychology, p. 21, 22.The proper materials of this science doubtless are, not the supposed faculties, of which we know' nothing directly, but the known phenomena of the mind, and all those other entities, or existences, which exert an influence upon these phenomena, or are concerned in their production, p. 22, 23.In the classification of mental operations, various systems have been adopted.
