Recent advances in understanding Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever virus

Abstract: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) is a widely distributed hemorrhagic fever virus and the cause of hemorrhagic disease in Africa, Southern and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, India and Asia. Recent emergence of CCHFV into Spain indicates that the geographic range of this virus is expanding and the presence of its tick vector in several countries without reported disease suggest that CCHFV will continue to spread. Research into CCHFV was historically limited by a lack of suitable animal models and … Show more

“…Examples of tick-borne viruses of importance for animal and/or human health are African swine fever virus transmitted by Ornithodoros spp. [9], Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV) transmitted by Hyalomma ticks [10] and tick-borne encephalitis virus transmitted by Ixodides ticks [11]. As mentioned earlier, the ecology of these viruses, normally includes the circulation of the virus between a reservoir animal and the tick species.…”

“…For example, in the case of CCHFV the main viral reservoir is the tick itself with several amplifying hosts, such as hares, deer and domestic livestock. Humans can be infected via tick bites or when handling infected animals [10].…”

“…Some cases of gastric adenocarcinoma are associated with EBV. Merkel cell polyomavirus is responsible for causing a vast majority of Merkel cell carcinoma tumors (Haley et al, 2018;Arora et al, 2012;Bosch and De Sanjosé, 2003;Bower et al, 2003;Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2012;Chaturvedi et al, 2009;Fukayama et al, 1994).…”
