Recent Applications of Mass Spectrometry in Paint Analysis

Abstract: Mass Spectrometry (MS) has wide applications in many fields, from biology and medicine and from chemistry and food industry. MS has also been successfully applied to the analysis of heavy metals, small molecules or large, polymeric molecules, and this analysis could be performed either by analyzing one molecule at the time or by analyzing simultaneously complex or very complex mixtures. Here we focus on several applications of MS in the analysis of paint, artist's paints, and powder coatings components reporte… Show more

“…Mass spectrometry, in various set‐ups, is utilized to fulfill the goals mentioned above. A brief summary of major MS techniques useful in conservation, has been presented in a short review by Woods (2013). This paper clearly indicates the importance of a broad use of various ionization options for detailed studies of paints.…”

“…Increasing the spatial resolution causes decrease in signal intensity and this should be kept in mind when planning the experiment. Further exemplary applications of various types of mass spectrometry can be found in Woods (2013) and J. La Nasa, Lee, et al (2019).…”
