Recent developments of modulation and control for high-power current-source-converters fed electric machine systems

Abstract: The pulse-width-modulated (PWM) current-source converters (CSCs) fed electric machine systems can be considered as a type of high reliability energy conversion systems, since they work with the long-life DC-link inductor and offer high fault-tolerant capability for short-circuit faults. Besides, they provide motor friendly waveforms and four-quadrant operation ability. Therefore, they are suitable for high-power applications of fans, pumps, compressors and wind power generation. The purpose of this paper is to… Show more

“…Stability analysis approaches for a multi-inverter-fed power system should adapt to the replacement of synchronous generators in traditional power systems by clean, inverter-based resources [1]. Unstable problems, such as those induced by the coupling between grids and grid-connected inverters (GCIs), have been analysed [2][3][4]. The internal parameters, control methods, structure, and other information pertaining to gridconnected inverters at engineering sites are unknown owing to the technical confidentiality restrictions imposed by the equipment supplier.…”

“…The main advantage of the induction motor is that it eliminates all sliding contacts, resulting in an exceedingly simple and rugged construction. Moreover, the rapid development of new induction machines and the emerging of power drive technologies in the past few decades, ranging from a few watts to many megawatts [17], enables them to be used in many fields involving conversion processes [18], whether in the generation, transmission, or electrical energy consumption [19]. Therefore, the electrical motors and drives are used in industrial, commercial, and domestic applications such as transportation systems [20,21], rolling mills [22], paper machines [23], textile mills [24], machine tools [25], pumps [26], robots [27], fans [28], and vehicle propulsion [29], among others [30].…”
