Recent Progress and Effects Analysis of Foam Flooding Field Tests in China

Abstract: For mature oil fields, foam flooding is an attractive chemical EOR technique and many pilot tests have been carried out in China. The performance of foam flooding pilot tests and its affect factors on oil recovery was discussed in this paper. The development trend and key technologies of foam flooding technique are pointed out. Eighteen foam flooding pilot tests have been carried out in China from 1994 to 2010. Good performance have achieved in sixteen pilot tests. Through effects analysis of th… Show more

“…Foam increases sweep efficiency during gas injection in enhanced oil recovery applications (Holm 1968;Schramm 1994;Patzek 1996;Skauge et al 2002;Blaker et al 2002;Zhu et al 2013;Lake et al 2014). It is also used in aquifer remediation and in acid diversion in well-stimulation treatments (Thompson and Gdanski 1993;Behenna 1995;Hirasaki et al 1997a, b;Talabani et al 2001;Cheng et al 2002;Maire et al 2015;Portois et al 2018).…”

“…Among them, four production Wells originally used for first polymer flooding wells locate in the main streamline of polymer flooding well pattern and the water cut rises from 92.6% before the field test to 95.7%, another 12 wells originally used for water flooding wells locate in the distributary streamline of polymer flooding well pattern and the water cut of four central wells decreases from 96.5% before the field test to 90.5% and the water cut of another 8 edge wells decreases from 95.5% before the field test to 92.4% (Seen in Fig.13). A better development effect has been seen in the production wells located at distributary streamline, its average single well accumulative oil increase is 1788t more than that of production wells located at main streamline, so remaining oil distribution are the main factor influencing on the development effect after polymer flooding [25][26][27][28][29] .…”

“…Typical SP flooding can increase oil recovery by more than 15% OOIP [15]. SP flooding is believed the development trend of chemical flooding in China [13,16], and five large-scale field tests have been carried out by China National Petroleum Company (CNPC) since 2011 [13]. Although a successful single-well SP field test was reported in Hungary [17], large-scale SP flooding field tests were only reported in China.…”
