Recent Progress of BODIPY Dyes With Aggregation-Induced Emission

Abstract: With the development of organic optoelectronic materials and bioimaging technology, to exploit organic luminescent materials with high luminescent efficiency in aggregation-state has become a research hotspot. BODIPYs have become one of the research objects of this kind of material because of their obvious advantages. This review focuses on the design and synthesis of AIE-type BODIPYs, the mechanism of AIE properties and their applications in recent years. Through classification, analysis, and summary, this re… Show more

“…BODIPYs have been extensively studied as fluorescent probes for bioimaging applications [138][139][140][141] but only scarcely for the design of photoinitiators [142][143][144]. The first carbazole-based BODIPY used as photoinitiator was reported in 2019 (Cbz_35) in the context of a polymerization carried out in the near infrared region (See Fig.…”

“…No evidence for the formation of the desired product was observed by NMR of the crude material. Tetraphenylethene derivative 7i was prepared in the hope that it would display aggregation-induced emission (AIE) [34][35][36], however, disappointingly, it did not. The yields of the reactions ranged from good to excellent.…”

“…Among them, RIM has been widely acknowledged as one of the origins of AIE. 19,20,[23][24][25][26] From single molecular states to aggregated states, the restricted moieties of different molecular systems are not identical ( Fig. 1A-C).…”
