Recent researches of bioactive metabolites in marine organisms-associated microorganisms

Abstract: Recent researches have shown that some compounds isolated from marine organisms have striking structural similarities with the metabolites from known microorganisms. It is inferred from the researches that the symbiotic or associated marine microorganisms may be the true sources of those compounds or at least involved in the biosynthesizing process. This view has been further evidenced by the researches for many sponges and sponge-associated microorganisms. Importantly, growing evidence has highlighted that th… Show more

“…Marine habitats are potential and promising region unravelling novel biomolecules due to its diverse physical, chemical, and biological entities compared to terrestrial environment (Romano et al 2017). Often, shallow and deep-water sediments are proven source for antimicrobial and antitumor compounds-producing microorganisms (Zheng et al 2000;Gu et al 2004;Kwon et al 2006). Generally, Actinobacteria accounts for more than 7000 bioactive compounds as reported in the Dictionary of Natural Products.…”

“…The measuring methods can be classified into two kinds: direct detecting and indirect detecting. The method of direct detecting means getting the absolute moisture content by drying or chemical reaction, and the method of indirect detecting is to measure moisture content through detecting the physical characteristics which vary with moisture amount [3]. In all methods of indirect detecting, there are mainly three methods applied to the foundry industry: the electrical resistance method, capacitance method and microwave measurement method.…”

“…Although major attention has been dedicated to the study of shallow and deep water sediments, microbial associates of marine molluscs have proven to be a rich source of biologically active substances such as antimicrobial and antitumor compounds (Zheng et al 2000;Qianqun et al 2004;Kwon et al 2006). Shellfish molluscs are known to be natural accumulators of microorganisms due to their filter-feeding habit.…”

“…Their internal tissues are enriched by nutrient compounds and adhesive substances which provide a unique set of conditions for microbial association, quite different from those in the surrounding seawater or sediment. Value of shellfish microbial associates include the metabolic removal of waste products, protecting their hosts by chemically mediated defense mechanisms from dangers like predation or pathogen, and production of bioactive metabolites of pharmaceutical application (Zheng et al 2000;Qianqun et al 2004).…”
