“…Both allochthonous and autochthonous inputs may increase because of anthropogenic in¯uences because of the nutrient enrichment promoted by theadvent of domestic and agricultural drainage, which may enhance biological productivity. However, the increment in C org is the result of a simultaneous increase in inorganic and organic sedimentation because increases in inorganic sedimentation alone would result in pro®les indicating a decrease in the C org content caused by mineral dilution, which probably occurs faster than the organic production (Bortleson and Lee 1972). The observed variations of the C org content in the cores may be attributed to the combined in¯uence in production rates of carbonate C, organic C, and inorganic sedimentation from the onset of extensive agricultural and urban activities in the watershed in the Culiacan valley.…”
