Abstract: W ostatnich latach zwrócono uwagę na nowy potencjał badawczy zjawisk wydawałoby się już dobrze rozpoznanych. Do nich z całą pewnością należą gabinety osobliwości, od których wywodzi się współczesne muzealnictwo. Z kolei protomuzea nauki, jakimi były gabinety historii naturalnej, wyodrębnione z gabinetów osobliwości, dały szansę wielu uczonym na poznanie egzotycznej przyrody i prowadzenie systematycznych badań nad rodzimą fl orą i fauną.
