2014 Nous avons établi quelques relations empiriques donnant le pouvoir d'arrêt des protons et des particules 03B1 dans un domaine d'énergie allant de 0,7 à 12 MeV/uma. Les relations parcours-énergie ont été obtenues par intégration directe des formules du pouvoir d'arrêt. Ces relations ont été appliquées à la détermination du parcours et du pouvoir d'arrêt dans les détecteurs à semiconducteurs. Certaines autres applications de ces formules seront également discutées.Abstract. 2014 We have introduced some new empirical relations for stopping powers of protons and alpha particles in the energy range 0.7 to 12 MeV/amu. The range formulas were obtained by directly integrating the stopping power formulas of protons and alpha particles. These relations have been also used to find out stopping powers and ranges in semiconductor detectors. Practical applications of the empirical relations are also discussed.

“…The percentage differences between the proton stopping powers, and those for the (slightly slower) 2-0 x 10 9 cm./sec. a-particles measured by Rosenblum (70) and Mano (59) are: Al 2-0, Ni 4-5, Cu 0-0, Zn 2-0, Mo 2-3, Pt 6-3 %. The tendency for the figures to increase with atomic weight is to be expected in view of the difference in particle velocities.…”

The absolute measurement of neutron flux density by ionization methods is discussed.The relation Eυ = JυW ρ between the energy Eυ absorbed per unit volume of a solid medium and the ionization Jυ produced in a gas-filled cavity in the medium, the average energy W expended by the ionizing particles in producing a pair of ions in the gas, and ρ the stopping power of the solid relative to the gas for these particles, is critically examined from the point of view of the measurement of the rate of absorption of neutron energy at any point in a hydrogenous medium. The accuracy attainable is assessed, in so far as it depends on our knowledge of the quantities ρ and W.
