RECIST and WHO Criteria Evaluation of Cervical, Thoracic and Abdominal Lymph Nodes in Patients with Malignant Lymphoma: Manual versus Semi-Automated Measurement on Standard MDCT Slices

Abstract: Semi-automated measurement of cervical, thoracic and abdominal lymph nodes showed valid results on standard axial reconstructions compared to manual quantification with the limitation of a high false segmentation rate in thoracic lymph nodes.

“…Such a discriminating technique may also be applied to liver lesions [15], [16]. The validation cohort was studied solely with semi-automated measurements, since they demonstrated robust correlation with manual measurements in our training cohort, which is consistent with literature data ( Figure S1 ) [14][17].…”

“…5,6 Hodgkin lymphoma, DLBCL, and FL are FDG avid. 79 FDG PET/CT modifies lymphoma stage in between 14% and 59% of patients when compared with CT or FDG PET without CT. 1018 There are few high-evidence-level prospective studies validating the use of PET/CT in the treatment of lymphoma.…”

“…Software for volumetric analysis of lymph node metastases has become available only recently [9][10][11]. In comparison to lung nodules, volumetric analysis of lymph nodes is considered more challenging, as lymph node metastases are often irregular with heterogenous contrast enhancement, are often adjacent to structures of similar density and tend to fuse in the case of tumour growth.…”
