Reclassification of Lactobacillus catenaformis (Eggerth 1935) Moore and Holdeman 1970 and Lactobacillus vitulinus Sharpe et al. 1973 as Eggerthia catenaformis gen. nov., comb. nov. and Kandleria vitulina gen. nov., comb. nov., respectively

Abstract: The development of molecular tools and in particular the use of 16S rRNA gene sequencing has had a profound effect on the taxonomy of many bacterial groups. “…g -Phenotypic / biochemical methods and MALDI-ToF agreed that 21/22 of these Escherichia isolates were E. coli, although as for 16S rDNA sequence, MALDI-ToF can not distinguish between Escherichia and Shigella.. For the remaining isolate the identity was Escherichia fergusonii by MALDI-ToF but Mannheimia haemolytica by phenotypic / biochemical tests.h -This isolate matched had 16S rDNA sequence < 99% homology to the type strain of Gallibacterium anatis although identical to some field isolates described as this species. Sharpea azabuensis , the only member of this genus, was initially described as a species related to Lactobacillus catenaformis , but L. catenaformis was later reclassified as Eggerthia catenaformis , and it is no longer a member of Lactobacillaceae [34, 35].
