Reconfigurable computer systems: from the first FPGAstowards liquid cooling systems

Abstract: The paper covers the history of development of design technologies of reconfigurable computer systems based on FPGAs of various families. Five generations of reconfigurable computer systems with high placement density, designed on the base of various FPGA families, from Xilinx Virtex-E to modern Virtex UltraScale, are described. The last achievements in the domain of design of energetic effective reconfigurable computer systems with high real performance are presented. One of such achievements is the developed… Show more

“…There are no computer-aided tools of scaling IP cores and organizing data flows (at least within one chip), and this task is assigned to the user. For multichip RCS [2,3], where many FPGAs are connected by a spatial switching system, the complexity of scaling and matching of IP cores for an efficient solution is rising significantly [12].…”

“…The total amount of calculations (12), which we obtain as results of the sequential reductions by number of basic subgraphs with the coefficients n and m, and as results of the reduction R N n•m by number of basic subgraphs with n • m instead of n in (11), have the same value. This fact proves Theorem 1.…”

“…Nowadays, multi-chip reconfigurable computer systems (RCS) [11] with field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) are widely used for solving of computationally expensive problems in various fields of science and technology. RCSs contain multiple FPGAs of a large logical capacity.…”
