Reconfigurable multi-slot antenna for bio-medical applications

Abstract: Abstract-We present a polarization-reconfigurable multislot antenna with four switchable linear polarizations (as 0⁰, ± 45⁰ and 90⁰) for implant communications. The design is based on four bow-tie shaped slots acting as radiators etched on a circular metallization plane with 45⁰ rotated sequential arrangements. RF switches based on PIN diodes are connected across each slot in order to modify the radiators polarization. We apply a differential source to feed the slot antenna through a groundtapered Balun. In or… Show more

“…A differential pattern reconfigurable antenna in [9] is designed by changing the capacitance of the parasitic element. A reconfigurable multi-slot antenna fed by a differential source is presented in [10], which can switch among four linear polarisations. In [11], a frequency-tunable capacitor-/varactor-loaded differentially fed rectangular DRA is reported.…”

“…The antenna used 12 PIN diodes with measured gains about 3.5 dBi. In [8], [9], four linear polarizations with 30 • rotation were achieved by reconfiguring four slot radiators. However, the large dimensions of the antenna (around 1.22λ×1.22λ×0.26λ at 2.45 GHz) may make it inconvenient to be applied in the antenna array.…”
