Reconstitution of a corneal endothelium by intracameral injection of cultured endothelial cells

Abstract

The only currently available treatment for irreversible corneal endothelial failure is allo‐transplantation, which is overshadowed by optical distortion of the posterior surface, postoperative donor corneal endothelial cells attrition and risk of rejection. Assessment of the in vivo functionality of a corneal endothelium reconstituted by the injection of corneal endothelial cells in the anterior chamber of an endothelial deficiency model allows to consider cell‐injection as a possible therapy for corneal endotheliopathies.
