Recording and Reproduction in Ultrahigh-Density Ferroelectric Medium LiTaO3 through Lubricant Layer

Abstract: It is generally admitted that the irradiation of crystalline materials with highenergy heavy ions often leads to the formation of highly defective or amorphous tracks. In the latter case, the amorphization process follows a single-ion-impact mechanism. However, recent results demonstrate that in certain circumstances crystalline-to-crystalline phase transitions can also occur. This is well illustrated with the case of pure zirconia which can undergo a transition from the monoclinic to the tetragonal phase with… Show more

“…Lithium tantalite (LiTaO 3 , LTO) is one of the most important photorefractive materials, and it exhibits various interesting properties, such as piezoelectric, ferroelectric, acousto-optic, electro-optic and nonlinear optical properties [11][12][13][14]. Some results demonstrate that LTO single crystal has high electro-optic and nonlinear optical constants, making it suitable to be widely used in many fields including passive 3 Author to whom any correspondence should be addressed.…”

“…Break and wear of the tips have been investigated extensively [6,7]. In recent years those tips of some conductive materials against some specimens have been investigated for probe-based storage [8][9][10][11][12].…”

“…Relatively hard Au-Ni, Pt-Ir and Pt-Ni exhibited less wear compared to Pt tips. A durability experiment of the commercially available Pt-Ir-coated silicon tip with a diameter of 50 nm was performed against an LiTaO 3 substrate with applying the load of 100 nN for development of the SNDM-based probe storage [11]. At that time, sliding velocity and sliding total length were 100 µm s −1 and 3.4 m, respectively.…”
