Recording the Occurrence of the Bean Bug Riptortus Clavatus (Thunberg) (Heteroptera: Alydidae) Using an Automatic Counting Trap

Abstract: Abstract:To save labor for monitoring the occurrence of the bean bug Riptortus clavatus (Thunberg), we used automatic counting traps baited with synthetic attractants from July to December, 2004. This automatic counting trap utilizes a solar battery to work continuously and sends data automatically via a built-in mobile phone. The occurrence of the bugs was also monitored by three water-pan traps. The number of bugs counted automatically and the actual number of catches in the automatic counting trap were not … Show more

“…The pheromone system of the species has been reported to be a mixture of (E)-2-hexenyl (Z)-3-hexenoate, (E)-2-hexenyl (E)-2-hexenoate, and tetradecyl isobutyrate in the ratio 1:5:1 (Leal et al 1995). These components have been synthesized, and further studies of the dosage and effective blending ratio of the pheromone lure (Masuta et al 2001;Endo et al 2005) or of trap types (Moriya and Mizutani 2003;Tabuchi et al 2006) have been conducted for practical use of this pheromone.…”

“…The peak of flight activity in R. pedestris was around 2 p.m. (Tabuchi et al, 2006), which corresponded to the highest diurnal temperature; however, the maximal speed of L. chinensis was not significantly affected by temperature. These results suggest that the maximal speed of L. chinensis was less influenced by temperature than that of R. pedestris.…”

“…Field females with immature ovaries and males with immature EFRs were attracted to males reared in a long photoperiod or synthetic pheromone bait in autumn (from midSeptember to December) (Tabuchi et al, , 2006Mizutani et al, 2008 and the present study). The attracted adults were apparently under reproductive diapause, judging from the status of their internal organs, suggesting that the R. pedestris pheromone has a function other than as a sex attractant.…”
