“…Among these chemicals, allyl alcohol can be more useful and 5 On the contrary, we have developed zirconia-iron oxide catalyst, ZrO 2 -FeO X , for the catalytic conversion of biomass resources. We have succeeded in producing phenol and ketones from tar derived from wood biomass [17][18][19][20], sewage sludge [21], and fermentation residue [22] over ZrO 2 -FeO X , in which ZrO 2 loaded on FeO X contributes to the high catalytic performance and stability. Since ZrO 2 -FeO X works effectively on the organic compounds 5 having hydroxyl and carboxyl groups, the catalyst is expected to be applicable to the catalytic conversion of glycerol into useful chemicals.…”

“…Figure 14 shows the desorption rate of hydrogen generated by the decomposition of steam when the catalysts were heated after the pre-adsorption of steam on the catalysts. The catalyst supporting zirconia exhibited higher steam decomposition activity, even at lower temperatures, producing hydrogen (Masuda et al, 2001). Simultaneously, active oxygen species were generated from steam.…”

“…The conversion of black water into useful chemicals requires catalysts having the following properties: a strong ability to decompose the hydrocarbons in the black water, stable activity in the presence of water, and resistance to the deposition of impurities contained in the black water. Zirconia-supporting iron oxide catalysts are effective for the decomposition of oil palm waste (Masuda et al, 2001) and petroleum residual oil (Fumoto et al, 2004) in a steam atmosphere. Oil palm waste can be converted to a mixture containing phenol, acetone, and butanone using the catalyst.…”
