RESUMO
REPRODUCTIVE ASPECTS OF MUSSELS (BIVALVIA, MOLLUSCA) IN THE PARANAGUÁ ESTUARINE COMPLEX, PARANÁ, BRAZIL
ABSTRACTThe objective of this work was to study the reproductive period of the shellfishes (Mytella guyanensis and Mytella charruana) in the Paranaguá Estuarine Complex (CEP). Thirty adult individuals of each species were collected monthly during August/1999 to July/2000. The organisms were measured, weighed and opened mechanically by sectioning the adductor muscles. Sex identification and reproductive stage were evaluated and the condition (IC) and meat yield (MY) indexes were calculated. IC results indicated annual average of 13.25% (±6.95) for M. guyanensis and of 17.65% (±12.11) for M. charruana. For R, average of 43.68% (±10.15) was observed for M. guyanensis and of 51.22% (±8.64) for M. charruana. Results of the reproductive studies allow to conclude that the gametes elimination occurs partially for the two species, with two higher periods of spawning in the year.
