Abstract:Aim:The aim of the present paper was to determine the pattern of recurrence and prediction for survival after primary curative surgical resection of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: This was a retrospective single institutional review. During 2002During -2005 patients had hepatectomies at Queen Elizabeth Hospital The total number of patients with primary curative liver resection was 113, and 103 patients were included in this survival analysis. Results: The recurrence rate was 49/103 (47.6%). The oper… Show more
“…Diagnosis of HCC was made according to the criteria described in our previous publication 4 . Diagnosis of HCC was made in the presence of diagnostic features on triphasic contrast computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with an elevated level of alpha fetoprotein (αFP; >400 ng/mL).…”
Radiofrequecy ablation is useful tool in treating patients with HCC with high successful rate. However, intrahepatic recurrence is common and a well designed post ablation follow up protocol based on a sound knowledge of recurrence pattern is vital.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
