“…Kamath et al 1 elected to treat their mildly affected patient with a simple synovectomy whereas Harvey et al 2 chose to arthrodese their patient who had a more extensive lesion. Craft et al 3 describe the recurrence of synovial chondromatosis in the distal interphalangeal joint in a patient who had undergone a previous episode of surgery due to misdiagnosis of the disease. After definitive treatment with total synovectomy and arthrodesis of the DIP joint, the authors suggest that early recognition of the disease could be adequately treated with removal of loose bodies and synovectomy instead.…”
