“…Other studies, however, found greater stiffness and related those results to better interlock of SSA in comparison with natural aggregates (19,21). Fakhri and Ahmadi (18) stated that the effect of adhesion between binder and aggregates on the resilient modulus could be more important than interlock of aggregates. Since the samples in this study were tested at intermediate temperature (25°C), there might be a synergistic effect of adhesion and particle interlock, with some small negative outcomes due to adhesion but positive results due to better aggregate interlock.…”

“…In the past, several studies have verified the possibility of adding steel slag aggregate in paving applications ( 2 13 ). More recently, research efforts have been ongoing to verify the effects of steel slag as aggregate in different types of asphalt mixtures, such as conventional, warm, and/or stone mastic asphalt ( 14 – 22 ). Most studies report that steel slag aggregates (SSA) present favorable frictional properties, high stability, and good durability, with resistance to stripping and rutting, however, the heterogeneity and expansive characteristics of SSA are still the major issues that limit their use in paving applications.…”

“…Studies have also been conducted on the application of steel slag in asphalt mixtures. The results of this research have shown that the use of steel slag could increase the strength of the mixture against moisture sensitivity [14][15], resistance to fatigue cracking [16], permanent deformation [15], and resistance to rutting and dynamic creep [17].…”

“…Atualmente, diversas medidas e estudos experimentais estão sendo realizados para sua redução, assim como sua aplicação em material cerâmico, descoberta por KLEPAet al [1], com potenciais características, tanto para absorção quanto para reflexão de energia e excelente para refletir o calor. O resíduo da construção pode ser útil também como reuso na terraplanagem de estradas e na compactação de solos em diversos tipos de construções [2,3].…”
