Recycling of Wastes Deriving from the Production of Epoxy-Carbon Fiber Composites in the Production of Polymer Composites

Abstract: The formulation of composites reinforced with shredded epoxy-carbon fibers wastes is investigated. Poly (buthylene terephthalate) PBT was selected as the matrix for the composites. In order to increase the interaction between the epoxy resin still coating the carbon fibers and the PBT matrix, polycarbonate (PC) was added either to the matrix formulation or as a waste coating. The flexural strength, impact strength, and dynamic-mechanical analysis of the new composites was investigated, as well as their microst… Show more

“…[33][34][35] The epoxy/carbon fiber composites have high strength, modulus, toughness, and corrosion resistance. [36][37][38] The enhanced properties depend on the interaction between the epoxy and carbon fibers in the composites. In this regard, the surface modification of carbon fiber can be adopted via chemical, electrochemical, plasma, and thermal techniques.…”

“…5 Therefore, it is very necessary that increase in recycling of plastic waste may resolve the problem. 6 The goal of the current analysis is to create novel techniques for recycling some of the most widely produced plastics. 7,8 Today especially in India the recycled plastic products can be more useful in cold regions.…”

“…With the development of a pre-impregnated (prepreg) fiber filament by the Markforged company and others, the possibility for printing carbon fiber was further enabled. A lot of research has gone into the evaluation of material properties [3,4], optimization of the printing process [5], printing hardware [2] and some investigations have been made into waste recycling [6,7]. Currently, a major bottleneck is the fact that classical 3D-Slicers lack adapted path planning methods [8,9].…”
