“…Most of these freshwater red algae are found in light- and nutrient-poor running waters and accordingly, their ecophysiological adaptations differ from those of most marine red algae. However, freshwater Rhodophyta are important constituents in river ecosystems, where they can be abundant and widely distributed (Necchi, 2016). Three freshwater red algae, Compsopogon caeruleus , Kumanoa mahlacensis , and Batrachospermum turfosum (Sheath & Vis, 2015), are typical inhabitants of lentic freshwater bodies, such as lakes and ponds.…”
