“…It is worth mentioning here that according to Barnicot and Cohen [1970] and Schmitt et al [1970], pongids like orang-utang, gorilla and chimpanzee -all living under tropical conditions -are characterized by an acid phosphat ase pattern which is at least electrophoretically very similar to the human AcP B type. Assuming a biochemical identity or at least great similarity of these acid phosphatase patterns in pongids and hominids, which, however, is still to be proved, one can argue, that the Pb allele is phylogenetically fairly old, whereas the Pa allele (as well as Pc, Pr and Pd alleles) came into existence after separation of the hominid line from the common ancestral stock of pongids and hominids.…”
