Red-Free Light for Measurement of Intraocular Pressure Using Goldmann Applanation Tonometer without Fluorescein

Abstract: Measurement of IOP with a Goldmann applanationtonometer with red-free light and without the use of fluorescein is simple, saves time, and gives an accurate IOP measurement relative to the traditional measurement technique with cobalt blue light and topical fluorescein.

“…All patients underwent detailed ophthalmic examinations at each visit, including assessment of bestcorrected distance visual acuity using a Snellen chart (automatic chart projector ACP 1800 L; Chongqing Vision Star Optical Co., Ltd., Chongqing, China), slit-lamp examination (Photo-Slit Lamp 30 GL; Takagi Seiko Co., Ltd., Japan), detailed fundus examination with a + 90-D lens (Volk Optical Inc., Mentor, OH, USA) under a slit-lamp microscope, and measurement of intraocular pressure using a Goldmann applanation tonometer (KAT R-Type Keeler, USA) without fluorescein staining [19].…”

“…The question of whether fluorescein is necessary at all for accurate GAT IOP measurements has been explored in the past with mixed results. [7][8][9][10][11] The Tono-Pen (Reichert Technologies Inc., Buffalo, NY) is a digital handheld McKay-Marg tonometer that has recently grown in popularity due to its portability, ease of use, and utility in patients unable to sit upright in a slitlamp examination. It has gone through several design iterations, the most recent being the Tono-Pen Avia (TPA).…”
