Red Rice Bran Extract Alleviates High-Fat Diet-Induced Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Dyslipidemia in Mice

Abstract: Red rice bran extract (RRBE) is rich in phytonutrients and has been shown to have anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. However, its anti-hepatic steatosis and anti-dyslipidemic properties have not been thoroughly investigated. This study examined the aforementioned properties of RRBE, the underlying mechanism by which it alleviated non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in high-fat diet (HFD)-fed mice, and its major bioactive constituents. The mice were divided into four groups based on the… Show more

“…Therefore, in this study, the LPS administration time was set to 48 h as the minimum time for the formation of notable fibrotic tissue. Regarding the concentration of LPS, 1–10 mg/kg is generally used to investigate its inflammatory effect in vivo 26 , 27 , but it varies depending on the experimental conditions. Therefore, 2.5, 5, and 10 mg/kg were considered in this study.…”

“…lower concentrations of creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, aspartate aminotransferase, and malondialdehyde. In addition, diabetic rats treated with red rice or black rice had considerably higher glutathione concentrations in their serum and liver tissue [46]. Superhongmi rice in Korea found to have high rat small intestinal sucrase inhibitory activity and the anti-hyperglycemic effect using a Sprague-Dawley rat model [47].…”
