Red tattoo reactions, a prospective cohort on clinical aspects

Abstract: underserved areas. In the future, these patients could have the ability to scan their lesions so that a dermatologist can print it out at their respective location. However, even in combination with 3D printing, teledermatology does not allow for the assessment of certain portions of the clinical examination, such as induration and warmth. Although 3D technology is studied and utilized in the dermatologic setting, it is not currently being used for the purposes described herein. Skin cells are routinely 3D pri… Show more

“…In a review of 405 patients with 493 tattoo reactions treated at the Bispebjerg University Hospital, Department of Dermatology, the “Tattoo Clinic” in Copenhagen, chronic allergic reactions were predominant and found in 37% of all reactions . This was confirmed in a study of 101 patients reported by the “Tattoo Clinic” in Amsterdam using the same diagnostic classification system . Dermatitis is a manifestation of a delayed‐type allergic response.…”

“…Most of the evaluated lesions had a diameter above 3 mm and an interpolation area below 600 mm 2 , see Figure . This study shows that the method is relevant for most, but not all allergic tattoo reactions …”

“…The 3D optical scan method shows in follow‐up significant changes in elevation and volume, as can be seen in Figure . These results were not compared to the clinical outcome of the treatment as assessed by the dermatologist, since the clinical outcome is greatly dependent on the subjective parameter itch, and itch is not measured using our method. However, the quantification of lesions could be used as an objective marker in the evaluation of treatment.…”
